A Baker's Journey Through Life
I am Cathy, a self-taught cake baker and designer that would love to learn about your creative outlets. I love baking and dream of a tiny little bakery here in my hometown of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Still Friday...
OK, I did something that could be stupid. I announced on Facebook that I'm making cookies, brownies and cakes for Valentine's day. Was that dumb? As soon as I hit post I wanted to hit the big X to delete the status. I don't know what I'm thinking. Really. I love making cookies though, so we'll see how that goes. I have a great cookie cutter in the shape of lips.
January 14, 2010 TGIF
Hi everyone! I laugh as I write "TGIF" because I am on sabbatical from my job as an ICU nurse. Do you think, even if I am getting more serious about my baking business, that it counts as a sabbatical? Hmm, something to think about.
I am Cathy. Nice to meet you all. I am a mother, grandmother, wife and just your everyday normal person. I have always loved to create things. I like to see how professional I can make things look with a little kick of my own flavor. I love to bake, knit, read, and just about anything else I see that looks possible to make on my own.
Sometimes, I see things and think, "hey, that looks do-able". Then I start and it's either "WHOA! What were you thinking", or "YAY! Someone might actually wear that!" HA. Anyway, I want to give you ideas that make you happy and ready to create. I'll tell you all of my dirty little secrets to my baking success. Believe me, you might be surprised. HEY, that's my goal, to surprise and inspire. So, let's make something today. Even if it's a smile, let's make it.
Today, I'm going to make chocolate chip cookies with organic chocolate chips. I've never made anything with organic ingredients so we'll see if there's a big difference. I put several things in my cookies. I am going to try adding coconut and pistachios in these cookies. I think the pistachio will add a beautiful color, and taste, to a classic cookie. I've made chocolate chip cookies with trail mix before and they were wonderful. I think that baking should be something you love to eat, as well as make. I'll let you know how it goes.
